Let us show you to your seats...

History

On June 8th 2000, Palmers Restaurant Brasserie was opened by husband and wife team, Pat and Deborah Palmer. There were plenty of raised eyebrows, and several people openly questioned just how wise we were to open a modern restaurant in a former menswear shop on the high street in Downham Market. Ten years on and we are about to celebrate our anniversary.

And what a busy and successful eleven years it’s been, thanks to the support of our many regular customers the food, and indeed the whole experience at Palmers goes from strength to strength. Pat takes care of all the cooking and is very proud that everything is made on the premises, with the exception of the bread, from Knights’ bakery. While front of house is looked after by Deborah and a loyal team of staff.

Being born and raised locally the one thing that continues to surprise us is the number of people who travel quite a distance to come to the restaurant, regular customers frequently come from as far afield as Norwich and Cambridge, with lots more from Kings Lynn, Ely and Wisbech. In fact they far outnumber the amount of locals we see, and that’s something we would like to change.

So what can you expect from a visit to Palmers?

Visit in the evening and there is a choice from our full menu and specials blackboard, maybe some pan fried King scallops with chorizo sausage pea shoot salad chilli and honey dressing, or bubble and squeak, soft poached egg, crispy bacon, black pudding and HP sauce to start with, followed by one of Jeff Sargeants fantastic steaks, char-grilled and served with mixed dressed salad and hand cut “double cooked” chips.
Non meat eaters can be tempted by seafood Thermidor with monkfish, tiger prawns and lemon sole in a cream and brandy sauce topped with parmesan and breadcrumbs or sun dried tomato, caramelised onion and herb risotto. And don’t forget to leave room for a delicious home-made dessert.

At lunchtime our full menu is complimented by a fixed price offer of £12.50 for two courses and £15.00 for three, as well as a selection of sandwiches, baguettes and tortilla wraps.
